Why has my account been suspended?

At STEPPI, we value the integrity of our challenges and the fairness they provide to all participants. If your account has been suspended due to unusually high activity, it’s because our systems flagged your step data as potentially unrealistic. Below, we explain the reasoning behind such suspensions and how they help maintain a level playing field.

Why Did This Happen?

Our monitoring system detects activity levels that significantly exceed normal physical limits. While we understand that some participants are highly active, certain step counts are often beyond human capability within a single day. To ensure our challenges remain fair and rewarding, we take steps to investigate unusual data.

Key Step Targets and Real-World Comparisons

50,000 Steps in One Day

Distance: Approximately 35–40 kilometers.

Time: Walking non-stop at an average pace of 5 km/h would take around 7–8 hours.

Likelihood: This is achievable for highly active individuals, such as marathon walkers or hikers. However, achieving this consistently over multiple days is rare.

100,000 Steps in One Day

Distance: Roughly 70–80 kilometers.

Time: Walking non-stop at an average pace of 5 km/h would take 14–16 hours.

Likelihood: This is extremely rare and typically requires planning, optimal conditions, and exceptional fitness levels. Few individuals, even in peak physical condition, would accomplish this.

More Than 100,000 Steps in One Day

Distance: Exceeds 80 kilometers.

Time: Walking non-stop would require 16+ hours, leaving little room for rest, food, or other daily activities.

Likelihood: Highly improbable under normal circumstances. Such data often indicates potential inaccuracies or tampering.

The Importance of Data Integrity

STEPPI’s challenges are built on trust and fairness. Accurate step tracking ensures that:

Rewards are earned honestly.

Participants feel confident that their efforts are fairly recognized.

Organizations and community partners trust the results of their challenges.

Suspiciously high activity undermines this integrity and can negatively affect other users’ experiences.

What Happens Next?

If your account has been suspended:

Review Your Activity: Check if your wearable device or app might have miscalculated your steps due to incorrect settings or unintentional input.

Contact Support: Reach out to us at support@steppi.com with your registered email or phone number along with details about your activity. If you can provide evidence (e.g., participation in an ultramarathon), we will review your case.

Account Reinstatement: If your steps are verified as legitimate, we will promptly reinstate your account. If discrepancies persist, further action may be taken to uphold fairness.

How to Avoid Future Suspensions

Ensure your wearable device or app settings (e.g., stride length, sensitivity) are accurate.

Avoid manual step entry in third-party apps that could generate inaccurate data.

Contact us proactively if you anticipate unusually high activity, such as participating in a special event.

Thank you for understanding the importance of maintaining integrity within STEPPI challenges. Together, we can create an enjoyable and fair experience for everyone!
