How do I connect Health Connect?

You can use this article to connect Health Connect to STEPPI.

IMPORTANT: Having multiple apps permitted in Health Connect may cause issues. To avoid conflicts, only allow either Samsung Health (if you use a Samsung Watch) or Google Fit, along with STEPPI. Please open Health Connect and check your app permissions to ensure only the necessary apps are enabled.

😀 Great for: Users who want to track steps from their Android Phone📱

Set up is simple, follow these steps:

In the Choose Device screen in the STEPPI app, select Health Connect
Click Connect
When asked to provide access for STEPPI to read health data, toggle on Allow All
Click Allow
You will then be redirected back to the STEPPI app

You're all set, you can now connect a variety of apps to Health Connect, which in turn will write the data to STEPPI.

Important Note: Some third-party app integrations with Health Connect do not currently support reading all data points. See the details below:

Google Fit: Active Minutes data is not currently accessible, meaning Active Minutes tracked in Google Fit will not appear in STEPPI.
Samsung Health: Active Minutes data is also not accessible, so Active Minutes recorded in Samsung Health will not be reflected in STEPPI.

STEPPI continuously reviews app integrations and will update data syncing capabilities as improvements become available.

Technical Tip: We recommend opening STEPPI every day to sync your steps when on a challenge 🏃🏼‍♂️

Troubleshooting Health Connect Issues on Android

If you’re not seeing any step data in STEPPI after connecting through Health Connect, follow these steps:

Ensure Only One Step Source is Connected

Health Connect allows multiple apps to share data, but STEPPI can only receive steps from one source.
If you have more than one app (e.g., Google Fit and Samsung Health) providing step data, STEPPI won’t receive any data.

Check Your Health Connect Settings

Open Health Connect on your phone.
Go to App Permissions
Under Allowed Access, make sure only one step-tracking app (Google Fit, Samsung Health, etc.) is enabled.

Disconnect Extra Sources

If multiple sources are connected, disable access for all but one.
Restart the STEPPI app and check if your steps appear.

*Once resolved, it can take up to 5 minutes for the first data call to be read to STEPPI.

If issues persist, try disconnecting and reconnecting STEPPI from Health Connect.
