Troubleshooting Apple Health connection issues
Apple Health is connected but steps are not updating
What’s happening?
Why this happens
This may happen if:
- STEPPI does not have the required Apple Health permissions
- Apple Health is not tracking steps correctly
- There is a delay in syncing data
- The app was recently installed or updated
How to fix it
1. Check Apple Health permissions
- Open iPhone Settings
- Tap Health
- Select Data Access & Devices
- Tap STEPPI
- Make sure all permissions are enabled (especially Steps and Activity)
2. Open Apple Health first
- Open the Apple Health app
- Make sure today’s steps are visible there
- STEPPI can only sync steps that already exist in Apple Health
3. Refresh STEPPI
- Open the STEPPI app
- Pull down on the home screen to refresh
- Wait a few seconds for syncing to complete
4. Enable Background App Refresh
- Go to iPhone Settings
- Tap General
- Select Background App Refresh
- Make sure it is enabled for STEPPI
Manually added data is not counted
Important to know
Any steps or activity that are:
- Manually added
- Edited
- Entered by a third-party app
will not appear in the STEPPI app and will not count toward challenges.
Why this happens
To ensure fair play and accurate tracking, STEPPI only syncs data that is:
- Automatically recorded by your phone or wearable
- Verified as physical movement
Manually entered data cannot be validated and is therefore excluded.
What to do
- Make sure you are carrying your phone or wearing your device while moving
- Check that Apple Health is recording steps automatically
- Avoid manually adding or editing step data
Still not seeing your steps?
If your physically tracked steps are visible in Apple Health but not in STEPPI:
- Refresh the STEPPI app
- Check permissions
- Follow the troubleshooting steps above
